Forest Machine Operations: Skidder

What Will Be Covered?

This course is aimed at those working in the forestry industry who need to extract timber from a site using either a line skidder or grapple, and will enable you to work safely and in accordance with health and safety, and industry best practice guidelines.

The course covers checking fittings, the condition, operation and the control system of the extraction equipment as fitted to vehicle, and explains alternative methods of chokering the timber. You will be manoeuvring the skidder equipment and carrying out operations in accordance with the job specification. The course also looks at the procedure for debogging the skidder.

we can also help if you are only looking for the FMO assessment and do not require training. Please see lower down the page for more information.

Are There Any Pre-Requisites?

What Can I Progress To?

This qualification is not a pre-requisite for other courses, but you may want to consider other training within the suite of FMO (forest machine operations) qualifications, such as forwarder, scarifier, cable crane, flail/mulcher, or processing.

How Long Is The Course?

1 week, but this can be tailored based on the experience of the driver. Please contact us to discuss your requirements (line skidder / grapple) and availability of training / assessment.

Where Is The Course Held?

Many of our courses are based at our workshops at Arborfield, near Reading; but this course can be delivered across the UK, at your own site, if needed. Please contact us for more details.

I Only Need An Assessment...

Whilst we can deliver training, we are increasingly finding that many people only want the assessment as they are already using the equipment on a regular basis. We can organise FMO assessment-only dates for you. Please call us for more information - you don't need to come to us as we can arrange for an assessor to visit your site.

There are also various options to make life easier (and a bit cheaper too), as we can combine units; this means that instead of paying for separate registrations for a base unit, a forwarder and a skidder, we can combine the base unit with the forwarder, and keep the skidder as a separate registration.

The best bet is to just give us a ring on 01189 762901 and we can take you through the options - no obligations.
