WHAT WILL BE COVERED?
The Level 3 Award in Felling Trees Over 380mm builds upon your felling experience enabling you to tackle ‘medium’ and ‘large’ sized trees, showing you the methods used to fell trees with a stem diameter greater than the bar length of the chainsaw. You’ll be dealing with trees weighted in the, and against the, direction of fell, as well as setting up a winch based system to deal with hung-up trees; you’ll be shown the ‘bore-and-sweep’ method and the ‘safe corner’ method of cutting, the ‘letterbox’ cut for dealing with the hinge on hung-up trees, and you will see the importance of accurate buttress removal. Snedding / delimbing is also covered.
