What Will Be Covered?
This advanced Level 3 Award in Severing Uprooted or Windblown Trees using a Chainsaw will equip you with the skills and underpinning knowledge of how to deal with fully windblown, partial windblown (heaved root-plate) and hung-up windblown trees.
Windblown trees may be relatively simple to deal with, but they are potentially extremely dangerous due to the severe tension and compression forces that may exist; the ability to correctly identify the stresses within the tree and then manage the process of severing the stem using winches where necessary is very important to maintain operator safety, and of those around you. The course can be taught with either hand-winches, vehicle mounted winches or tractor-mounted winches.
Are There Any Pre-Requisites?
Yes, there are a number of pre-requisites that must be met before undertaking this course and the respective assessment:
- You must be at least 16 years of age to undertake the training and assessment.
- You must hold a Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Crosscutting (or CS30).
- You must hold a Level 2 Award in Felling Trees Up To 380mm (or CS31).
- You must hold a Level 3 Award in Felling Trees Over 380mm (or CS32).
As well as these pre-requisites, you must be an experienced user of a chainsaw before undertaking this course; please contact us to discuss suitability and availability of this course.
If you do not hold the Level 3 Award in Felling Trees Over 380mm, then you may want to consider the Level 3 Award in Emergency Treework Operations as this will cover some of the elements of dealing with uprooted trees.
What Can I Progress To?
This is at the highest level of City & Guilds NPTC Awards, but as you already hold all the relevant pre-requisites, why not consider the Level 3 Award in Assisted Felling Operations?
If you do not hold the Level 3 Award in Felling Trees Over 380mm, then you may want to consider undertaking that course first, or book the Level 3 Award in Emergency Treework Operations as this will cover some of the elements of dealing with uprooted trees and does not require the Level 3 Award in Felling Trees Over 380mm.
